Thesis: Estimating prey densities for the Amur Tiger

 

My research interests thus far have revolved around conservation biology and population ecology. I double majored in my undergraduate studies in Russian and Biology. This combination has prepared me for my upcoming field study in the Russian Far East.  After graduating from the University of Florida, I spent two years working for a Habitat Conservation Plan protecting sea turtles and their nests. I also participated in wildlife rehabilitation and public education efforts in Volusia County, Fl. My current research project is a comparison of several methods for analyzing ungulate population densities in snow covered terrain. It is my hope that this research will provide an estimate of prey population densities for the Amur tigers in the Sikhote-Alin Zapovednik (an IUCN Category I Reserve) as well as provide insights for future density estimates of elusive or rare animals.
